About JW Marriott Costa Elena
The JW Marriott Costa Elena stands on Playa El Jobo in La Cruz, the far north of Guanacaste, 20 minutes from the Nicaraguan border. It is the resort that opened as Dreams Las Mareas: a full-service beachfront property with several pools, restaurants, a spa and a wide, calm, golden-sand beach inside Bahía Salinas, backed by the dry forest of the Costa Elena development.
It is the most secluded of the big Guanacaste resorts. Guests come for the beach and the resort itself, with Santa Rosa National Park, the Bahía Salinas kitesurfing beaches and Rincón de la Vieja all possible day trips.
The ride from Liberia Airport (LIR)
From Liberia Airport the transfer takes about 1 hour 30 minutes, all on paved road: the Pan-American Highway north past Santa Rosa National Park to La Cruz, then the coastal road down to Bahía Salinas and Playa El Jobo. The viewpoint at La Cruz, high above the bay, is worth a two-minute photo stop. Your driver takes you to the resort lobby; there is one gate and no walking involved.
Good to know before you arrive
- The resort is the only hotel on its beach: buy snacks, sunscreen or anything outside the all-inclusive in Liberia on the way in.
- Afternoons in Bahía Salinas are windy from December to April, which is why the kitesurfing schools are here; mornings are calm.
- Keep passports in your hand luggage; the border at Peñas Blancas is close and police checkpoints on Route 1 occasionally ask for ID.
- Book the airport pickup for 4.5 hours before an international departure: 1.5 hours of driving plus 3 hours at LIR.

- How much does a private shuttle from Liberia Airport (LIR) to JW Marriott Costa Elena cost?
- $160 for 1 to 5 passengers, $180 for 6 to 9 passengers and $240 for 10 to 12 passengers, per vehicle. The price is per vehicle, not per person, and includes the driver, fuel, tolls and 13% VAT. There is nothing to pay at pickup.
- Where does the driver meet me at Liberia Airport (LIR)?

- Can we stop along the way from Liberia Airport (LIR) to JW Marriott Costa Elena?
- Yes. Short stops for food, a supermarket, an ATM or photos are part of the service. Longer detours, such as a waterfall or a second town, are quoted in advance so there are no surprises.
- Do you have child seats for the trip to JW Marriott Costa Elena?
- Yes, and they are free. Costa Rican law requires a car seat or booster for children under 12 or shorter than 1.45 m (4 ft 9 in), so tell us the ages when you book and the right seats are installed before pickup.
- What happens if my flight into Liberia Airport (LIR) is delayed?
- Nothing changes for you. We follow the flight number you give us and adjust the pickup to the actual landing time. There is no waiting charge for delays, and the same driver meets you.
- What is the cancellation policy for this shuttle?
- Cancel more than 48 hours before pickup for a full refund minus the 13% tax. Within 48 hours the trip is non-refundable. Changes to date, time or address are free up to 48 hours before, subject to availability.
