About Playa Hermosa

Playa Hermosa, the Guanacaste one, is a curved, calm, grey-sand bay north of Playas del Coco, with hotels and rentals set back under the trees and some of the gentlest swimming water on the coast. It is quiet, safe for children and known for its sunsets and beachfront restaurants.

Do not confuse it with Playa Hermosa near Jacó, a heavy surf beach on the Central Pacific.

The ride from Liberia Airport (LIR)

Liberia Airport to Playa Hermosa is about 30 minutes via Route 1 and the Sardinal road, then north past Coco, fully paved. Papagayo is 10 minutes away, Tamarindo about an hour. Rentals here are spread along two access roads; give the driver the property name and he will take you to the door.

Good to know before you arrive

  • The bay is calm enough for paddleboarding and kayaking almost every day.
  • Restaurants on the sand serve dinner at sunset; book the front tables in high season.
  • Groceries, ATMs and pharmacies are in Playas del Coco, five minutes away.
  • Water-sports rentals sit at the south end of the beach.

Questions about Liberia Airport (LIR) to Playa HermosaDuration, price, meeting point, stops, child seats, delays and cancellations
How long does the private shuttle from Liberia Airport (LIR) to Playa Hermosa take?
About 1 hour 30 minutes door to door. That is a realistic figure for Costa Rican roads, not the fastest time a map app shows. The service is direct, with no other passengers, so there are no detours to drop anyone else off.
How much does a private shuttle from Liberia Airport (LIR) to Playa Hermosa cost?
$105 for 1 to 5 passengers, $130 for 6 to 9 passengers and $185 for 10 to 12 passengers, per vehicle. The price is per vehicle, not per person, and includes the driver, fuel, tolls and 13% VAT. There is nothing to pay at pickup.
Where does the driver meet me at Liberia Airport (LIR)?
At the arrivals exit, holding a sign with the lead passenger's name. We track your flight, so if it lands early or late the pickup moves with it at no charge. From the exit to the vehicle is a short walk.
Can we stop along the way from Liberia Airport (LIR) to Playa Hermosa?
Yes. Short stops for food, a supermarket, an ATM or photos are part of the service. Longer detours, such as a waterfall or a second town, are quoted in advance so there are no surprises.
Do you have child seats for the trip to Playa Hermosa?
Yes, and they are free. Costa Rican law requires a car seat or booster for children under 12 or shorter than 1.45 m (4 ft 9 in), so tell us the ages when you book and the right seats are installed before pickup.
What happens if my flight into Liberia Airport (LIR) is delayed?
Nothing changes for you. We follow the flight number you give us and adjust the pickup to the actual landing time. There is no waiting charge for delays, and the same driver meets you.
What is the cancellation policy for this shuttle?
Cancel more than 48 hours before pickup for a full refund minus the 13% tax. Within 48 hours the trip is non-refundable. Changes to date, time or address are free up to 48 hours before, subject to availability.
