About Playa Potrero
Playa Potrero is the long, calm, dark-sand bay just north of Flamingo, popular with families and long-stay visitors thanks to its gentle water, beachfront rentals and relaxed village of restaurants and small markets. Sunset over the Flamingo headland is the daily event.
It is quieter and cheaper than its neighbours yet only minutes from the marina, Las Catalinas and the Conchal snorkelling.
The ride from Sámara
The drive from Liberia Airport is a little over an hour via Route 21, Belén, Huacas and Flamingo, all paved. Las Catalinas is 10 minutes north, Tamarindo 30 minutes south. Rentals are spread along the beach road and up the hills; share the property name and the driver will find it.
Good to know before you arrive
- Potrero's water is the calmest of the Flamingo bays, good for paddleboards and small children.
- The Wednesday and Saturday markets in the village sell produce, bread and local crafts.
- Playa Penca and Playa Prieta, five minutes north, are near-empty pocket beaches.
- Stock up on groceries at the AutoMercado in Flamingo, the biggest supermarket in the area.
