About Playas del Coco

Playas del Coco is the lively, unpretentious town of the northern Gold Coast, with a long calm bay, a busy main street of restaurants, bars and shops, and the departure point for Guanacaste's scuba diving to the Catalina and Bat Islands. Hermosa and Ocotal are five minutes away for quieter sand.

It is a favourite for divers, expats and travellers who want a real town with services close to Liberia Airport.

The ride from Sámara

From Liberia Airport the drive is only 25 to 30 minutes on paved road via Route 1 and the Sardinal turn-off. Tamarindo is about an hour south, Papagayo 15 minutes north. Your driver drops you at your hotel, condo or house, including the developments up on the ridge toward Ocotal.

Good to know before you arrive

Dive boats leave around 7:30 am; book the night before through your operator.
The town beach is fine for a swim but Playa Hermosa and Ocotal are prettier and quieter.
Coco has the region's best selection of restaurants and a large supermarket for self-catering.
Sunday afternoons are busy with local families; weekdays are relaxed.
