About Playa Avellanas
Playa Avellanas is a long, wild surf beach 20 minutes south of Tamarindo, known for Lola's beachfront restaurant, its white sand and mangrove backdrop, and consistent waves at every level from the estuary to the reef breaks. There is little development: a few boutique hotels, surf camps and villas hidden in the trees.
It suits surfers and couples who want Tamarindo's amenities within reach but silence at night.
The ride from San José Airport (SJO)
From Liberia Airport allow 1 hour 20 minutes: paved to Villarreal near Tamarindo, then a gravel road south through Hacienda Pinilla. The road is rough in green season; our vehicles handle it comfortably. Tamarindo is 20 to 25 minutes away.
