About Rincón de la Vieja
Rincón de la Vieja is Guanacaste's active volcano and national park, an hour north-east of Liberia, with boiling mud pots, fumaroles, waterfalls and dry-forest trails. The ride from San José Airport (SJO)
Liberia Airport to the lodges takes 1 to 1.5 hours: paved to the Curubandé or Cañas Dulces turn-offs, then gravel for the final stretch to each hacienda. From Tamarindo or Flamingo allow 2 to 2.5 hours, from Papagayo about 1.5.
