About Playa Hermosa
Playa Hermosa, the Guanacaste one, is a curved, calm, grey-sand bay north of Playas del Coco, with hotels and rentals set back under the trees and some of the gentlest swimming water on the coast. It is quiet, safe for children and known for its sunsets and beachfront restaurants.
Do not confuse it with Playa Hermosa near Jacó, a heavy surf beach on the Central Pacific.
The ride from Sámara
Liberia Airport to Playa Hermosa is about 30 minutes via Route 1 and the Sardinal road, then north past Coco, fully paved. Papagayo is 10 minutes away, Tamarindo about an hour. Rentals here are spread along two access roads; give the driver the property name and he will take you to the door.
Good to know before you arrive
- The bay is calm enough for paddleboarding and kayaking almost every day.
- Restaurants on the sand serve dinner at sunset; book the front tables in high season.
- Groceries, ATMs and pharmacies are in Playas del Coco, five minutes away.
- Water-sports rentals sit at the south end of the beach.
